Bobby Mackey’s.. A Hauntingly good time?
By Donna Adams
On February 7th, 2010 CTPRT attended an event at the famous Bobby Mackey’s Music World in Wilder, Kentucky. We braved a blizzard that hit the Pittsburg area and finally made it! We commuted with David Conklin Jr., Eric Conklin, and Kristin Galary from the Pennsylvania Valley Paranormal Alliance. They are great friends we have made while collaborating at investigations.
Upon arriving, Mackey’s looks like any neighborhood watering hole with promises of fantastic country music and even bull riding! They have a mechanical bull inside. Unfortunately, we did not get the opportunity to go for a spin as we were snowed in and arrived on investigation day instead of the day before. Since it was a Sunday, Mackey’s was closed and prime for us to go in and check it out. The event was hosted by Shannon Sylvia of Season One of Ghost Hunters International and also had members of ParaX Radio & ParaX Vision there. Keith Age, ghost hunter, behind such documentary films as "Children of the Grave", "Possessed", "Spooky Cananda" and "Spooked" was also on hand. It was being broadcast live on
ParaXVision.com that night. I thought that I would be intimidated by the cameras but actually didn’t even know they were there!
There were about 22 investigators there and we were split into groups with team leaders. I was with Christine (CTPRT Co-leader), Kristin from PVPA, “Smilin Mike” an independent investigator, and our team leader was Keith Age! What an honor! He was fantastic and showed us the ropes. We were able to use the very first Ovulus that was specially made for Keith. It was great. The investigation areas or “hot spots” consisted of the large basement, the well down there also called Hell’s Gate, the Men’s bathroom, most of the main floor of the club, Carl’s apartment upstairs, and also the lighting walk above the sound stage.
We investigated various spots and the energy in that place is crazy. The basement, in my opinion, was the hot spot that night. About 5 investigators witnessed at the same time a dark shadow walking across the floor going into the dressing rooms down there. We followed but it disappeared. Our team was also in the “room of faces” (in the basement) and I physically was poked in the side. No one was close enough to do that and it had some force behind it. It was very unnerving to say the least! We also have unexplained scratching noises while we were in there.
The night was pretty quiet actually. We also participated in a hypnosis experiment which was interesting. And Keith brought his “Puck” which is an ovulus connected to a laptop computer. The results are still out on that one as we did not get much of a response.
Again, it was pretty quiet that night. Unfortunately we cannot make ghosts come out on cue! Maybe they didn’t like all the people, or the cameras. One can never know! So can I say definitively that Bobby Mackey’s is haunted? Well no, the verdict is still out. But if you talk to locals and other investigators who have been there, they will say most definitely yes. Myself? Well, I don’t know. I do know there is some crazy energy there. And I would love the opportunity to go again. We are still doing some audio evidence review and if we get any EVPs we will post to the site.
I suggest you go and check the place out! Maybe you will run into some ghosts! If not, you can enjoy fantastic country music and a “spirit” or two.
